FluxBB 2.0 Feature Request

Hi all,

MyBB is incredible fast and I'm looking forward to version 2.0

Here are the list of feature that I request to include in FluxBB 2.0 by default.

Please add these

  • Private Messaging

  • Poll

  • Fluxtoolbar like editor or some other (i.e. a editor with icons & more BBC like text align, table etc.)

  • Recaptcha or some kind of captcha for registration

  • Maintenance Mode with login/logout Feature (What if I'm editing files to install a mod and I had to leave the PC for a few hours?)

If possible, add these

  • Forum Announcements

  • Group Images & Colours

  • Optimize and repair tables

  • Clear cache

  • Topic Search

  • Group based Permissions

Re: FluxBB 2.0 Feature Request

PM is standard - my idea, PM it private Thread.
And deleted redirect page, because ... hm redirect = 3s, not redirect =1s. Time is time.

Re: FluxBB 2.0 Feature Request

Most of these are better suited for extensions, if you ask me.

Permissions will be much more fine-grained in v2.0.
Redirects are already gone in 2.0-dev.

Re: FluxBB 2.0 Feature Request

I definitely agree with clear cache and polls. But things such as private messaging I can see why they could be used only with extensions.

Re: FluxBB 2.0 Feature Request

Polls are such a rarely-used feature and very much self-contained - perfect for an extension in my eyes.

Re: FluxBB 2.0 Feature Request

On my forum they get used quite a bit actually, but maybe my site is a figure which distorts that number, I can see how many sites may not need them.

IMHO, PM & poll should be a default feature.

You haven't replied about the visual editor & anti-spam for registration.

Re: FluxBB 2.0 Feature Request

Those are contained in "Most of these". wink

I totally agree that we should offer an anti-spam solution. The problem with built-in ones is that they will soon be countered by bots. We will therefore offer some official extensions with different solutions so that you can customize your anti-spam fight. Does that make sense?

Re: FluxBB 2.0 Feature Request

I think VSABR is great - I use that, and have had one spammer register in a year, and made one post. I think something like that where it chooses from random questions that can be configured by the admin would probably be all you need.

The only other thing I do is block the access of bots to the registration page. How about detecting bots in 2.0 and then blocking their access?

Re: FluxBB 2.0 Feature Request

What kind of bots do you mean? How would you detect them?

Re: FluxBB 2.0 Feature Request

Any kind of bots, spambots, crawlers, content scrapers.etc - I detect them using the following code by Visman:

function isbotex($ra)
{
	function isbot($ua)
	{
		if ('' == pun_trim($ua)) return false;

		$ual = strtolower($ua);
		if (strstr($ual, 'bot') || strstr($ual, 'spider') || strstr($ual, 'crawler')) return true;

		if (strstr($ua, 'Mozilla/'))
		{
			if (strstr($ua, 'Gecko')) return false;
			if (strstr($ua, '(compatible; MSIE ') && strstr($ua, 'Windows')) return false;
		}
		else if (strstr($ua, 'Opera/'))
		{
			if (strstr($ua, 'Presto/')) return false;
		}

		return true;
	}

	$ua = getenv('HTTP_USER_AGENT');

	if (!isbot($ua)) return $ra;

	$pat = array(
		'%(https?://|www\.).*%i',
		'%.*compatible[^\s]*%i',
		'%[\w\.-]+@[\w\.-]+.*%',
		'%.*?([^\s]+(bot|spider|crawler)[^\s]*).*%i',
		'%(?<=[\s_-])(bot|spider|crawler).*%i',
		'%(Mozilla|Gecko|Firefox|AppleWebKit)[^\s]*%i',
//		'%(MSIE|Windows|\.NET|Linux)[^;]+%i',
//		'%[^\s]*\.(com|html)[^\s]*%i',
		'%\/[v\d]+.*%',
		'%[^0-9a-z\.]+%i'
	);
	$rep = array(
		' ',
		' ',
		' ',
		'$1',
		' ',
		' ',
//		' ',
//		' ',
		' ',
		' '
	);
	$ua = pun_trim(preg_replace($pat, $rep, $ua));

	if (empty($ua)) return $ra.'[Bot]Unknown';

	$a = explode(' ', $ua);
	$ua = $a[0];
	if (strlen($ua) < 20 && !empty($a[1])) $ua.= ' '.$a[1];
	if (strlen($ua) > 25) $ua = 'Unknown';

	return $ra.'[Bot]'.$ua;
}

Though I'm not sure how possible something like this would be in Laravel. You would just add them into the $pun_user variable as $pun_user['is_bot'] (or whatever variable it is for 2.0) and then check if they're a bot on pages X, Y and Z

Re: FluxBB 2.0 Feature Request

Aren't spam bots smart enough to fake valid user agents?

Re: FluxBB 2.0 Feature Request

That I'm not sure of - but as of yet, they haven't been faked for me and it's successfully detected loads of bots that are - even some that I've explicitly denied in my robots.txt.
