Change default redirect time to 0

When you install a FluxBB forum these days, you will se every now and then a redirect screen for 1 second. I think that this is a little bit pointless. These days, the reason this kind of features are available in FluxBB is completely obsolete. So, I think it is a good idea to change the default value of this feature to 0 seconds instead of 1. Perhaps we could add a "Settings saved" or "Post added" or ... message to the page to indicate that the users action are saved, but redirecting with a delay is just anoying in my opinion.

Re: Change default redirect time to 0

I completely agree. It's another unnecessary request made to the server for every post/topic made and it makes the user wait for no good reason.

Re: Change default redirect time to 0

It does seem pretty pointless when you put it like that, but I don't think it's as bad as you're making out. I think it's much better than say - phpbb's page where it displays a confirmation message, then you have to click a link to go back.

I think that again, it's a nice part of Fluxbb that I haven't found anywhere else, I don't know about you, but redirecting IMO is better than a message to have to click back. It also requires no input from the user, if you sometimes feel lazy, I know I can, then having to do a lot of things can become too much.

Re: Change default redirect time to 0

I'm not saying you have to click some sort of message, I'm saying that you're redirected directly back to the page where you came from, instead of showing a "Redirecting" page for 1 second.

Yeah, I say that sounds much better then. It would certainly speed things up and allow people to do stuff faster.

Re: Change default redirect time to 0

I second the idea of removing every "confirmation" page, putting a "confirmation box" inside the target page instead. I guess it's easily done with a couple of GET and POST parameter: result (success, failure... the box style) and description (message to print in the box)

Yeah that's a good idea, then maybe a use of JavaScript as well  to allow a user to click the message away?

I don't think that is realy useful as the message would disappear after going to another page anyway.

Re: Change default redirect time to 0

I don't think we should implement a message on the next page in the 1.* branch. And we need to notify users about what's happening.

Other than that, I agree. 2.0 does have real notification messages.

Re: Change default redirect time to 0

Was a pbm of "accessibility" at the time it was implemented.
Are ur "2.0 real notification messages" respect this ? (mean : reader navigators, no javascript, etc…)

Re: Change default redirect time to 0

I'll have to look into accessibility. Thanks for the reminder...

Re: Change default redirect time to 0

I created a ticket. I'll have to do some research on how this is handled elsewhere and how it should be handled.

If anybody has any knowledge on that, let me know!
