Multi Group Support

I think the multi group support is one important feature and is the only thing missing in FluxBB.

FluxBB includes everything I need for a forum, but the ability to add users to more than one group is necessary to simplify the management of our users. For some it is a core feature, for others not. But if it should not be included in the core a mod would be great. Otherwise I have to search for another forum system.

I would write a modification on my own, but I don't have enough time to do so. Maybe there is someone out there, who is also interested in this feature and could write such a mod. smile This would be really great! big_smile

Re: Multi Group Support

Could you specify what you want to achieve? Maybe there are other ways, too...

Re: Multi Group Support

Assume I have these 4 forums.

  • Announcements -- public

  • Admin Talk -- visible, writable to admins

  • Friends Talk -- visible and writable to my friends, but not normal users

  • Offtopic -- public

Let's assume a friend of mine is an admin. He'll need a speciel group to access both, Friends Talk and Admin Talk. Admins need an extra group, because admins (in sense of team members, moderators, etc.) don't necessarily need to view my personal friends forum. Also, some of my Friends need to see Friends Talk, but not Admin Talk. Therefore I need another group. (E.g. these groups: Friends, Admins, FriendAdmins, RegularUsers, and perhaps an "AdminViewOnly" group if I want someone to see what we write.)

This is annoying and it would be much easier if you could create different groups and assign an user to more than just one group.

Re: Multi Group Support

twohawks did some work on a multigroup feature for punbb 1.2/fluxbb 1.2 a while ago - see these topics:
http://fluxbb.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=2312
http://fluxbb.org/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=40891#p40891

I tried to install his version in fluxbb 1.5 and it seems to work (after I fixed a couple of things).
